MITS offers both full-time and part-time Ph. D. programmes. The candidate has to complete pre-Ph. D. work for a period not less than 6 months after admission and before registration. Admission to Ph. D. programme is subject to qualifying through written examination followed by interview. Admission takes place twice in a year (Autumn semester and Spring Semester).

Scholarship is awarded to all full-time research scholars as per institute rules. Admission to Ph. D. progarmme is in all relevant areas of Engineering, Science, Technology and Management.
